Course Description

Train the Trainer is a two-day workshop designed to reinforce the trainer standards defined by the ibstpi® (The International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction). This course fulfills one of the prerequisites for acceptance into the MCT program.

Students spend the first day in group discussion and activity moderated by a facilitator covering the ibstpi® trainer requirements, including:

  • Understanding Adult Learning Styles, Characteristics, and Models
  • Planning and Preparing for Instruction
  • Using Effective Presentation Aid
  • Managing the Learner Environment
  • Developing Effective Verbal and Nonverbal Communication Skills
  • Evaluating Learner and Instructor Performance

The second day of this course is reserved for the practice and filming of ten-minute instructional videos designed to help students submit and pass the CTT+ video requirement, while also serving as a demonstration of the student's skills in preparation for MCT certification. Students are required to prepare a lesson plan prior to the start of the second day and come prepared to present a ten-minute presentation on a technical topic.

The certificate issued upon completion of this course can be used as proof of demonstration of instructional skills for the MCT.

Microstaff IT’s TTT Instructor
David Smith has taught TTT sessions for over five years. As an instructor, he has taught for Microsoft in North America, Europe, and China and also worldwide through live online instructor-led format delivery. He has also been recorded delivering training in Microsoft’s studios in Bellevue for use in online asynchronous training materials. He brings all of his varied experiences as an instructor to the classroom, as well as a deep understanding of learning modalities of adults, classroom management, and instructor preparation.

In his spare time he chases after his four children and performs annually in a broadway style production. He guarantees you will have an enjoyable experience in this course.

This course is packaged in a two-day format: the first day reviews the practical skills and habits of effective instruction; the second day requires students to prepare, deliver, and review a 15-minute training session on video (acceptable for CTT submission).

Microstaff IT is an information technology education and consulting firm founded in 1995, with a focus on emerging Microsoft technologies. Our primary business is knowledge transfer, delivered either in the classroom or through consulting and mentoring engagements. We are a Microsoft Gold Partner with a variety of “competencies” ranging from Network Infrastructure, to Information Worker, to Custom Development Solutions (.Net, SQL, and SharePoint).

We operate a traditional IT training facility in Columbia, South Carolina (Microsoft Gold Partner Learning Solutions Competency) where IT professionals participate in a full schedule of advanced information technology centric courses either in person or remote via a remote instruction delivery system.

Our Consultant/Instructors work with clients from around the country, and are often called upon to deliver specialized training around the world. We believe that good instructors should have current expertise and scar tissue earned in the field on real world projects. In addition, our Consultant/Instructors often work on course development projects for technologies, products, and versions still in their pre-release stage. This chance to gain a deep understanding of new tools before the rest of the industry, gives our consultants a significant edge when discussing implementation planning and strategy with our clients.
